Covering Books

OUR BOOKS, OUR TAONGA

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE
AS A LEARNER?

Your books are a reflection of who you are as learners. They show you care.
They show your effort. They show your thoughts, your wonderings,
your successes and your struggles - they show your LEARNING!
Your first challenge for the year is to cover your writing and maths books in a way
that reflects who you are as a learner and communicates something about the subject.

  • For Literacy draw or cut out pictures, symbols or images and glue onto the cover
of your book. Consider colour, layout and visual effect.

  • For Maths follow the directions on the Mathematical Me Slides
  • Make sure your name is clearly visible.
  • Use clear coverseal once you have finished.

Welcome to 2019

Kia Ora and Welkom Parents/Caregivers

Welcome to 2019, a year with many exciting things to look forward to! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Eric Karshagen and I shall be teaching the students of Room 19 this year.  I have been a teacher for more than 25 years and this will be my third year at Berkley. I emigrated to NZ from South Africa in 2005, settled in the Waikato where I have continued my teaching career. My hobbies include fishing, garage sales and welding art pieces using scrap metal.

Room 19 will be a hive of activity this year with many learning opportunities on offer, both inside and outside the classroom. I am looking forward to working with your child and making the transition into a new class/school as smooth as possible.

Parent involvement and a positive teacher/parent partnership are vital to ensure success within the classroom. Do not hesitate in contacting me with any concerns you may have or informing me of any family situations (death/illness) that might affect your child’s learning, so that I can provide the necessary support.

I look forward to getting to know you and working with you throughout the year. Please feel free to email me at ekarshagen@berkley.school.nz with any questions, concerns or information that you may have.

Kind regards

Eric Karshagen ( Mr K)
